Caturra

A compact Bourbon mutation discovered in Brazil.

Lineage
A single-gene mutation subsequently selected by IAC from 1937.
Growing conditions
Short internodes and closely spaced branches suit dense planting; susceptible to leaf rust.
Traits
Widely cultivated in Central America and used as a benchmark in variety trials.
Sources

Castillo

A composite cultivar developed by Cenicafé for Colombian growing conditions.

Lineage
Composed of selected lines descended from Caturra × Timor Hybrid CIFC 1343.
Growing conditions
Compact lines were evaluated across several Colombian coffee-growing regions.
Traits
Selected for rust resistance, productivity and large beans.
Sources

Colombia

A composite cultivar combining selected lines to maintain genetic diversity for rust resistance.

Lineage
Derived from Caturra × Timor Hybrid 1343, with component lines changed through continued breeding.
Growing conditions
Selected for compact stature, productivity and adaptation to Colombian growing conditions.
Sources

Pink Bourbon

A name for pink-fruited coffee; tested samples have included Ethiopian-derived genetic material.

Lineage
Café Imports' 2023 testing found both an unmixed sample and samples containing Bourbon or Catimor alongside it.
Sources

Gesha

A name used for several genetically distinct coffee lineages originating in Ethiopia.

Lineage
Descendants of accession T2722 distributed in Panama form a distinct lineage.
Sources

Java

A variety carried from Ethiopia to Java, later introduced to Cameroon and Central America.

Lineage
A selection from the Ethiopian landrace population called Abysinia.
Growing conditions
Relatively low fertilizer demand and tolerance to coffee berry disease.
Traits
Recognized for high cup potential at elevation in Central America.
Sources

Maragogipe

A Brazilian Typica mutation distinguished by unusually large seeds and leaves.

Lineage
Found near Maragogipe in 1870; a parent of Pacamara.
Growing conditions
Widely spaced internodes and very low productivity.
Traits
Susceptible to rust, with good cup performance in Central America.
Sources

Sudan Rume

An Arabica lineage used as a breeding parent of F1 cultivars including Milenio.

Growing conditions
Also grown as separate lots by Café Granja La Esperanza in Colombia.
Traits
PT's Granja La Esperanza natural lot shows grape, molasses and grapefruit-zest notes.
Sources

Laurina

A natural Bourbon mutation originating on Réunion.

Lineage
Also named Bourbon Pointu.
Growing conditions
Short internodes produce a compact, conical tree form.
Traits
Lower caffeine content than Bourbon, with narrow seeds among its characteristics.
Sources

Pacamara

A large-bean variety developed by El Salvador's ISIC with high cup potential.

Lineage
Selected from Pacas × Maragogipe.
Growing conditions
Generally compact and susceptible to rust and Ojo de Gallo disease.
Traits
Very large seeds; traits continue to segregate between generations.
Sources

Ombligon

A coffee name used for material cultivated by Nestor and Adrian Lasso at El Diviso, Huila.

Traits
Named for the cherry's distinctive navel-like shape.
Sources

Sidra

Used in Ecuadorian specialty production for closely related Ethiopian-derived genetic material.

Lineage
Two Sidra morphotypes in the 2026 VINKA farm study belonged to the Core Ethiopia genetic group.
Traits
The study observed morphological variation rather than a single uniform line.
Sources

Tabi

A tall composite cultivar developed for farms traditionally growing Typica and Bourbon.

Lineage
Composed of selected progenies from Timor Hybrid crossed with Typica and with Bourbon.
Growing conditions
Evaluated under shade and full sun, using planting densities similar to Typica and Bourbon.
Traits
Selected for vigorous growth, large beans and rust resistance.
Sources

Cenicafé 1

A composite cultivar developed for compact stature, productivity and rust resistance.

Lineage
Composed of eight selected progenies descended from Caturra × Timor Hybrid 1343.
Growing conditions
Selected for a Caturra-like compact habit.
Traits
Selection included large beans and molecular markers associated with coffee berry disease resistance.
Sources

Chiroso

A regional coffee name associated with cultivation in Urrao, Colombia.

Lineage
The Chiroso material in a 2021 genetic study grouped with Ethiopian landraces.
Sources

Ethiopian heirloom

A collective trade term encompassing diverse Ethiopian coffee populations.
